Summer Camp News
Jul 06, 2021
Where do we start?! Summer camp at Adirondack Woodcraft Camps is off to an incredible start. Never have we been happier to be together in our favorite place. We are now just over one full week in to our Woodcraft 2021 summer camp season and we can't believe it! Time flies when you're having fun. Woodcrafters know how to make summer the best ever. Here's what's been happening:
Arrival Day went by in a flash with campers rolling in from as far south as Florida, as far west as California and from across the pond in Germany. (We are missing so many of our international campers this year and are trying our best to wait patiently for their return in 2022!) Our trusty Woodcraft staff did an excellent job of welcoming campers right into their home away from home on their first night and we of course spent our first evening activity around the Woodcraft campfire circle with a crackling fire and plenty of entertainment. Stories, songs, jokes, and skits. New and old participated! It was a blast.
Our first week brought hot weather with it which meant lots of incredible splashes at the waterfront. Already in our first week we saw many campers work towards their patches in archery, nature, canoeing and swimming. But even if they are not working toward a patch, our campers are interested and engaged in activities and learning an incredible amount of new skills. Ropes has been a fantastic new edition to the schedule and mountain biking has been a great new addition for our youngest campers. Two Outposters learned to bike at Woodcraft this past week! We are proud of everyone's courage and openness to trying new things and of pushing through even when it's not easy!
Our first Trip Day was awesome. Woodcraft classics like Canoe/Kayak the Moose River and Hike Bald Mountain were offered together with new options like Mountain Biking the McCauley Flow Trails, a High Peaks Trip, and Art En Plein Air. I mean, how lucky are we?!
The 4th of July at camp was so cool. We split up in to Green & Gold Teams and participated in super fun activities like a greased watermelon relay race around camp, a sand-fort building competition, and a slip n' slide battle to fill a pitcher of water while campers threw water balloons at us! Each team also decorated their own flag and wrote their own declaration of independence which was read by a camper representative while standing on and then jumping from the high dive. We had a great bbq dinner and then went straight to Woodcraft's Frog Jumping competition followed by a beautiful bonfire on the Field of Dreams. The weather was perfect for all of it!
What have you been up to?! Just kidding. We are really just so glad to be here together. There is one "person" who might be happiest of all and that is Sunny, camp's Golden Retriever. She absolutely loves all of the attention she is getting and can be seen swimming, running, and flopping over for belly rubs whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Wishing you a wonderful goodnight from Woodcraft. We'll be back soon for more news!
