2019 Opening Day for Summer Camp at Adirondack Woodcraft Camps

Wow, what a great start to Woodcraft Summer 2019! It was so exciting to see old friends and make new ones. From Old Forge to Germany, California to France, Pennsylvania to Mexico, New Jersey to Texas and many places in between, campers spent the day meeting their awesome counselors, moving into their bunks, getting to know their cabin mates, playing super fun camp-wide games, and preparing a skit for campfire after our first yummy meal together. We can’t even begin to tell you how happy we are to have everyone here!
Our most hilarious all camp game was probably “toilet tag” and the giant camp of rock, paper, scissors with teammates cheering on their champs was such a great energizer.
Campers also carefully constructed shoe towers and Iriquois Village took the prize for the tallest one! Later at campfire it was a real treat to have Director Emeritus, John Leach, begin the evening and connect past to present. Our camp pup Luna was also introduced and she made friends very quickly! Campers and counselors then took the stage to perform a variety of skits and songs. Each division had been given a word by another division that they had to incorporate into their performance. It was so fun to see what they came up with! Trail Camp won extra cookies for being the most creative at integrating their word “butterfly” into their skit (guess who gave them their word! Yup, the Hadarondahs!) We also really enjoyed individual performances by campers and counselors that included juggling, singing, and jokes. What a night! We ended right before taps blew (we have a bugle system that helps us stay on schedule) and campers walked back to their cabins together under a peaceful Adirondack sky. I stopped to take a quick look at the glassy evening water on the lake which beautifully reflected the Tamarack trees rimming the border. Everyone is now settled and asleep.
