Summer Camp 2020 Update from Adirondack Woodcraft Camps

May 27, 2020

Dear Woodcraft Families & Friends,

We have made the incredibly difficult decision to suspend our summer camp program for the 2020 season due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 as well as the lack of regulatory information, and permission to operate, that we desperately need from New York State. We have reached a point in our planning timeline at which it is necessary to proactively suspend our summer programs in order to protect Adirondack Woodcraft Camps and all of its community members. Our hearts are heavy at the thought of not seeing our beloved camp come alive with the laughter and positive energy of every single camper and staff member we will miss so much. In its entire history of operation since 1925, Woodcrafters have never had to miss the important opportunity to expand their horizons, forge lasting friendships, build important life skills and connect with the great outdoors through Adirondack wilderness adventures. We share in the great disappointment you must feel. This is tough. But we choose to move forward in the Woodcraft spirit: with courage & resilience!

To our campers and staff around the globe, we now have to count 397 days instead of 33 until we see you next summer. But we will do so with great excitement in anticipation of your arrival and your return to your home away from home at Adirondack Woodcraft Camps. We can hardly wait!

To our Woodcraft community of friends and families: thank you for your ongoing support. We have received notes of encouragement that have meant the world to us and we can’t thank you enough. Our commitment to carrying on the tradition of Adirondack Woodcraft Camps is stronger than ever.

Looking ahead helps us focus on the positive, so let’s do that together:

Our Adirondack Woodcraft Summer Camps dates for 2021 are:

    • Full Summer: June 27 - August 14
    • First Session: June 27 - July 24
    • Second Session: July 25 - August 14
    • Rookie Sessions: June 27 - July 11; July 25 - August 8
    • Enrollment for 2021 is already up! All families must reenroll, thank you for your patience.
    • Families who roll over their 2020 funds to 2021 immediately secure their 2021 spot at their 2020 rate.
    • Interested families who have been waiting on 2020 opening information may enroll from now until June 30th to secure their 2021 spot for 2020 prices.

Our Outdoor Leadership Training (OLTD) Program:

    • Will remain in place for 2021. All 2020 OLTDs will have the opportunity to participate in this very important and meaningful counselor-in-training and wilderness adventure program.
    • Our OLTD Program will be open to all students entering the 11th or 12th grade in the fall of 2021. All who are graduating 12th grade AND are 18 years of age may be considered for a spot on our Woodcraft camp counselor team.

We plan on opening Woodcraft for family lodging as of July 18 if permitted:

    • Families could vacation at Woodcraft for one week at a time and enjoy an incredible get-away in our private, pristine Adirondack setting with access to our beautiful waterfront, boats, trails, sports fields and equipment.
    • A private camp rental is possible.
    • Special family activity programs and childcare may be available. We are working on details!
    • Please call camp or email christina(at)woodcraftcamps.com as soon as possible if you are interested. We would like to serve our Woodcraft families first, and open up to the public after.

Ways to help camp:

While we remain positive and resilient, we would be remiss to say that Woodcraft has not been stressed as a small business during this time. Like so many who run small private businesses, we depend on the support of our customers. Below are some ways in which you can help.

    • Wherever possible, we ask our 2020 families to roll over their deposit and tuition payments to 2021. If you are able to do so, you will immediately secure your 2021 camper spots for the 2020 summer camp prices.
    • Recommend Adirondack Woodcraft Camps to new camp families. When a new camper enrolls because of your endorsement, we jump for joy! Nothing is better than a “word of mouth” camp recommendation. To say thank you, we will credit your account with $500 per camper who enrolls on your behalf. If you are an alumni or camp friend, we are happy to offer that credit to the new camp family.
    • Buy a Cross Country Ski Season Pass at Adirondack Woodcraft Camps! This is of course geared toward our local families or families who have second homes in the area. But perhaps you might consider a winter vacation in Old Forge or Inlet. It sure is magical up here during the holidays and we may even have winter lodging available at camp. Stay tuned! Find our ski pass rate information here.
    • Sponsor Equipment. We are constantly working on updating facilities and equipment at Woodcraft. Last year, one family donated brand new tents for our wilderness adventure trips and they made a big difference! If you would like to offer support in this way, please call camp or contact doug(at)woodcraftcamps.com to discuss the possibilities.

We leave you with our most heartfelt and warmest wishes. Although it feels like we have just completed a hike with multiple and steep false peaks, our view is clear and bright. We look forward to sharing many summers ahead with you and we cannot wait to see you at Woodcraft.

Sincerely,

The Bartlett Family

Doug, Christina, Ellie, Sam, Grace & Sunny (who really can’t wait to meet you!)
